Who said women centric films cannot make money?
They are smart and sassy, successful and powerful, and today they are walking shoulder to shoulder with men, Well, we are talking about today’s women, and who better than our Bollywood ladies would suit this topic perfectly… At the Oscars this year, Cate Blanchett, who won the Best Actress award for Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, in her acceptance speech said, “I want to thank our producers for so bravely and intelligently distributing the film and to the audiences, who went to see it, and perhaps those of us in the industry, who are still foolishly clinging to the idea that female films with women at the center are niche experiences. They are not. Audiences want to see them and, in fact, they earn money. The world is round, people.” Well, this is so true in Bollywood too. Gone are those days when female centric films were not known to anyone. This Women’s Day weekend we have two films Queen and Gulaab Gang releasing, which are women-oriented and are already creating the right buzz even before their release.
